Own Pace – [Blu Jay]

When it comes to an artist’s journey to success, there is no rulebook or guideline on how to go about it. Sure, you can look up tips on getting more exposure or figure out different ways to network within the industry, but that will never guarantee success. Once artists begin to realize that each and every one of them has their own path, success seems to find them sooner. That would be the case for the 20-year-old phenom from Charleston, South Carolina, Blu Jay; as he is making a name for himself by staying true to his craft, and respecting the grind as he rises to the top. Making a debut on the Lyrical platforms today, here is “Own Pace” by Blu Jay!

What speaks to me most about Blu Jay’s music, is looking at his journey and how much it has progressed, and still is progressing over time. Coming from the days of recording music on his iPhone, Blu Jay went on to drop a handful of singles during the pandemic, but due to the nature of everything that year had in store for us, the singles didn’t get the recognition that they deserve. Not letting that get in the way of his story, he kept shooting, kept working on his craft, and kept putting out more singles; which led him to release his first full-length, Mixed Emotions, in May of 2021. Since then, he has been continuously working and staying busy, while still doing things his own way.

“Don’t worry about me, I go through life at my own pace” Blu Jay raps during the chorus, letting it be known that he is doing just fine and is okay with taking his time and taking life day by day. In this record, Blu Jay plays around with numerous flows and cadence switches during his verses as he glides over the beat. The beat itself mixes different elements of acoustic guitar riffs while mixing in a modern twist.
