TONY BROOK$ is a promising up-and-comer out of Chicago has come through with an enticing new mixtape entitled “YNOT.” With production from a few different instrumental gurus known as Mees, Chillaska, and Nancy Amore, this project has a very eerie vibe, like BROOK$ is telling his story while taking the listener on a trip through a forest on a particularly hazy and possibly troublesome night. Throughout the four song tape, BROOK$ talks about the work he has put in to get to where he is now, some of the perks and/or downfalls of the recognition he now gets from fans, and the main topic I kept hearing throughout was his drug use. It seems that his drug use, more specifically Shrooms, help open his mind to see what others can’t, and heavily influence his musical style and creativity. In my opinion, the highlight of the project was the last song “MOON ROCKS.” It has an extremely catchy flow that is virtually unbroken throughout the whole song. Besides this song, features such as Roosevelt The Titan on the first track “DIRT” really help add another element to BROOK$’ project. The rest of the mixtape is still impressive as the rhymes and instrumentals come together in a very orderly fashion. Although “YNOT” only has four songs, TONY BROOK$ should be proud but not content, because he needs to continue to produce singles and mixtapes that will eventually solidify his name in this continuously flourishing city. I would recommend listening to all of his music on Soundcloud, but for now, listen to his latest mixtape “YNOT” below.
