Nothing beats the feeling of finding an absolute gem of an artist who seemingly slipped through the cracks somewhere along the way. Even more specifically, being from Massachusetts myself, it hits much harder when this artist is from the Boston area, just as is the case with Najee Janey and unbelievable new single, “What’s Crackin.”
Upon clicking play on this one, my first reaction was pure wonder as to why I had never stumbled upon Janey’s music before. I always try to make sure I know what’s going on in the local music scene, but for whatever reason, I don’t recall ever hearing of Janey’s name. Needless to say, I’m beyond excited to have stumbled upon the rising talent, as the shimmering, silky smooth vocals and lush production of “What’s Crackin” make this one of the best songs I’ve heard in recent memory.
What I love most about this offering, though, even beyond the astounding talents of Janey’s vocals, is the way that none of the deliveries feel like the Boston talent is trying too hard to make a song. Rather, “What’s Crackin” is candid and easygoing, using its natural charisma and soothing presence to enchant listeners without breaking a sweat.
I could go on about this one all day, but the truth is, you just have to click play on “What’s Crackin” to fully understand the magic behind this one. Enjoy!
