PG County, MD’s Lil Gray has been one of the underground’s brightest diamonds in the rough since first releasing his “Talented and Gifted” mixtape in 2018 and since has unloaded a heaping helping of music onto his very loyal and growing cult fanbase both within the DMV’s often overlooked but talent laden scene and the internet rap world that loved his scamming bars before anyone else was really talking about it like that, rare designer outfits, and very deep catalog that you could listen to for hours and hours on end. His musical output was slowed by house arrest but is steadily picking back up one video at a time, re-energizing his devoted online following, most recently with his Sparkheem produced “walkin with the stick!” that is one of the very hardest songs we have heard from Gray yet. Sparkeheem’s instrumental is a marvel to behold itself, bouncing with his usual DMV thump that has been often mimicked but never truly replicated and blends an eerie and elegant vocal sample that carries the beat throughout. Gray’s performance on this track is incredible, delivering a catchy hook and flexing his lyrical prowess that has been quite overlooked to this point, but I have a feeling that 2021 is going to be the year where Gray leaves no doubt. Mason Luckiewicz did an outstanding job directing this video blending a variety of high-definition and VHS shots and really brought the song to life well.
