Indie Tribe and their album ‘Upperhand’ is one of the best indie rap albums to come out this year. With alternative rap groups, it’s easy to categorize them as the next Odd Future or Brockhampton. Indie Tribe is neither as the group stands on their own sound and lyricism. The chemistry between Nobigdyl, Mogli The Iceburg, Jon Keith, and DJ Mykael V seem almost effortless throughout the eleven-track project. I’m a fan of great emcees with great rapping ability but I also enjoy artists who make music an experience with their music. When I press play on an Indie Tribe song I truly don’t know what direction the record will take me. I believe having three to four different heads in on a creative process of a single helps with this, there are only so many ideas one person could come up with on their own. Some of the stand-out tracks on Upperhand include “CEAR”, “TRIBAL COUNCIL” and “POPFUNKO.” Since this project the Indie Tribe collective dropped another heater with the single “TEAM”, the music is certainly there so with some more time and ears I expect them to take a huge leap in 2022.
