Turtles – [6 Dogs]

6 Dogs has long been one of my favorite artists to listen to in the underground and I don’t see that changing whatsoever moving forward. He has the gentle touch to each song that can pair with both dreamy, outer space-like beats as well as hard-nosed, ruthless instrumentals, and he just brings good vibes to every song he has a part in, even if some of the topics he talks about might suggest otherwise. While it seems as if he’s taking his time to truly perfect each and every song he delivers recently, I’m okay with this because it all but guarantees he’s going to give us a hit every single time he drops something new.

There is absolutely no exception when it comes to his latest song “Turtles”, either. He brings a new vibe to his already extensive arsenal of music with this hit, and the upbeat nature of the production just makes you want to get outside and dance. A bubbly guitar plays in the background as kick drums provide some incredible liveliness to the track, giving 6 the perfect foundation to sing some incredibly melancholic bars, although these seem to be a bit less dejected than normal. He raises and lowers the pitch of his voice with every word he sings, and although his notes come through loud and clear, he never truly brings too much enthusiasm to the table, sticking with his usual disposition that is one of the main reasons I became a fan of his in the first place.

His words are annunciated so that every lyric comes through purely and virtuously, making sure you can ingest and filter through each and every word that he is singing. During a few portions of the song, there is a beat break down that slows the instrumental down slightly, giving him a chance to reemphasize the lyrics he was singing previously before the original production picks back up and breathes new life back into the record. As he makes his way through this joyous song, 6 seems to be talking about the well-off life he is able to now live with his success in music, but also touches on the fact that people are still going to continue to try and bring him down, almost making him doubt the happy emotions he has worked so hard to feel and experience.

As the video opens up, rain is pouring outside as one scene crumbles into another showing an action figure floating around in water. Our first glimpse of 6 displays the artist floating in a tube while wearing a life vest spinning around in circles after paddling with a kayak paddle inside a pool in some sort of hotel or condominium complex. Other shots show him in a dingy tank top with jeans as he makes his way throughout an urban city that I wasn’t able to identify, but he is shown in a plethora of different spots in this downtown area. One of the reoccurring spots he can be found in is hanging from a pole of some sort like a monkey, swinging around, doing pull-ups, and seemingly enjoying the small things in life.

Eventually, he makes his way to a park where he shakes up a bottle of champagne, pops the cork, and attempts to drink it before allowing the majority of it to spill out of his mouth. Various abstract shots are shown utilizing the aforementioned action figure, canvases that seem to be half painted, and other themes of water beyond the rain and pool. Despite the ambiguity of certain shots, 6 just seems to be enjoying life as he dances around the different scenes and smiles, showing a newer, lighter side of himself that hasn’t always been overly evident in the past.

If you’re familiar with 6 Dogs and his music up to this point, you know what I mean when I say that I’m extremely glad to see the young star looking like he’s having the time of his life. He has obviously been through various struggles that he has highlighted in various interviews and other songs, so seeing him overcome these hardships while still allowing himself to remember how they morphed him into the person and artist he is today is incredible, so I definitely tip my cap. I’m hopeful that we’ll get to experience this side of the Georgia talent a bit more often moving forward, but what I can guarantee no matter what is the fact that he’s going to continue pumping out some of the most incredible music in the underground music scene, so make sure you keep an eye out for more upcoming releases. As for now, make sure you don’t miss out on his latest wonderful song “Turtles”, which you can check out below.
