No matter who gets brought up into the conversation, it would be insane to not mention TM88 when it comes to producers that have been running the game for years now. The 808 Mafia mega producer has been known for producing some of the biggest hits we have known. TM88 has produced for Travis Scott, Gucci Mane, Lil Yachty and many more. Most recently producing on the critically-acclaimed album Eternal Atake on the song “P2”, TM88 has been shooting from beyond the free throw line and has been putting up major numbers on the board. Today, he’s back with yet another hit with the release of his latest single “Tokyo Nights”, which coincidentally enough, features the Atlanta-native MadeInTYO.
The production style of TM88 has always been as unique as can be, as he is a part of the production group that can be crowned as the forefather of the current climate of trap music today. As time progressed, so did TM88 and he continues to evolve with the sound. On “Tokyo Nights”, TM88 unleashes soft and mesmerizing backing instrumentation that sounds like it came straight from the future. The beat is ever so fitting to that vibe of roaming the brightly-lit streets of Tokyo on a late night. MadeInTYO being the vocal feature here, he comes through with an auto-tuned flow that blends perfectly with the vibe created by TM88.
“I really wanted to bring the feel of a real Tokyo night to life racing through the neon light streets with a couple of beautiful women and just living the night of my life with my bro MadeinTYO”
-TM88
As of late, we have begun to see the trend of producers releasing records where they are featured as an artist, rather than just being listed in the producer credits. While many have not confirmed as to why this would be, it can be inferred that this means the producer is putting together a compilation album (similar to Metro Boomin’s 2018 album Not All Heroes Wear Capes), or that the producer was very hands on with the creation of the song as a whole, rather than just producing the beat. No matter what TM88 has up his sleeve, we can be assured that it will be big-as he never releases anything that does not live up to that.
