The Ride – [Jesse Gibson]

If you’re even remotely familiar with the music industry, you already know that New York is a hub for some of the most talented artists in the game. While it seems like a new musician is coming out of the woodwork every day, I most recently found out about Jesse Gibson, and after hearing just one song, I was absolutely blown away. While his delivery is somewhat glum and morose, there is this hopeful quality way in the distance that seems to perfectly juxtapose the previous two evidences, and it’s obvious that he’s a star in the making.

Considering I don’t know much about him at the moment, it was nice to know that the song I heard, entitled “The Ride”, was a cut off of his 2020 debut album Before the Devil Knows We’re Dead. Although I will definitely head on over to Spotify once I’m done writing this and check out the rest of the project, I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about the track’s brand-new Pleasure Craft-directed music video. Opening up on a landscape that displays the sun barely shining over the horizon, the camera begins to spin as if it was placed directly in the center of the wheel of a car.

As the song begins and Jesse starts to sing, He’s sitting on the roof of an old school BMW in the middle of a parking lot that looks to go as far as the eye can see. Next, he chills in the back of a purple-hued car, looking out of the back window at the camera as he recited his lyrics. Considering the shots consistently change to even more colorful, inventive scenes, they’re kind of just settings you need to see for yourself, but I can say with the utmost confidence that they’re some of the most vibrant, clear, and sharp shots I’ve seen all week.

Once again, this music video is such a well-shot visual that I could give my best shot at describing it, but my words won’t be able to do it justice, making it a flick that you simply need to watch and understand on your own time. Considering the song came out on the album last year, I didn’t really describe it much, but I have to admit that it’s one of the most intriguing, flawless records that I’ve heard in recent memory as well. I can’t believe that I let Jesse Gibson and his unbelievable music fly under my radar for so long and considering it seems like he’s still early into his blossoming career, I think that countless other music fans are missing out as well. With that being said, let the incredible visual for Jesse’s song “The Ride” be your wake-up call, as it was mine, and tune in as soon as possible to see what you’ve been missing out on.
