You might not have heard of Dwynell Roland before, but you’re about to hear a lot more about him in the coming years. One of Minnesota’s most buzzing up-and-comers, Roland has been gaining traction over the past year through collaborations with Sonny Digital protégé Finding Novyon and his stellar performances. All of this hype has led up to the release of his best project to date, titled The Popular Nobody. Dropped early this week, the project features the previously mentioned Finding Novyon as well as local legends P.O.S and Dem Atlas over some great, varied production that allows Roland to demonstrate how versatile he can be. As the title suggests, this isn’t a typical 2016 trap-flavored mixtape; this is a more personal project with more in common with lyrically focused artists like Joey Bada$$ – if you’re looking for a break from the onslaught of trap that’s dominated 2015 and 2016, make sure you check this one out.
