That’s Not Love! – [Richie Quake]

That’s not love!” is about drowning in shallow emotion. The idea that when you live a surface level life for enough time, you start to forget what real depth looks like and feels like. Being removed from love for so long, it becomes a blur from the past with no defining characteristics. I can’t tell if it’s orange or pink or red, but it’s certainly not green, that I can say for sure. I don’t know what love is anymore, but love is not constant numbness, it’s not getting high in your room alone, it’s not a downward spiral, and it’s not a drunk hook-up on a Friday night” – Richie Quake

Brooklyn artist and latest Mass Appeal Records signee Richie Quake returns to Lyrical Lemonade with a fresh new song titled “That’s Not Love!” Co-written by himself and Anna Shoemaker, the track serves as the first single off Quake’s upcoming album. Very much introspective, Richie eventually gathers what love is not; even if he hasn’t quite processed or remembered what it really is. Sonically the record contains Richie’s signature delicate vocals with guitar-heavy instrumentation, but the drums add a unique production twist. The electric guitar-led closure in particular around the two-minute mark is akin to the alt-indie version of a hip-hop scratching sound effect. Overall, “That’s Not Love!” is a very strong release to jumpstart Richie Quake’s year, and there are no doubts in my mind that there’s plenty more ahead. Have a listen below!
