Take the Field – [Shakewell]

Over the past handful of years, Shakewell has steadily proven to be one of the most dependable artists in the underground. No matter what he drops, it is consistently entertaining, energetic, and full of personality, so no matter what song you tap in with, you know you’re in for a treat. At the same time, it seems like he doesn’t receive the praise that he so rightfully deserves, but I am never going to let a day go by where I don’t give him his flowers when I get the chance.

Working with superstars like Pouya, $uicideboy$, and so many others, he has solidified a spot in the underground as one of the greats, at least in my book, and he never fails to impress me. Yesterday, Shake teamed up with Mikey the Magician once again to bring another hit to life, this one called “Take the Field”, and if you went I hoping for a nice, relaxing record, you’re in for one of the rudest awakenings ever. The 808s and other percussive elements are as thunderous as ever, and the loud, siren-like synths definitely bring the heat without a doubt.

Shake himself is on the prowl, per usual, just assaulting the beat with ruthless bars full of aggression and conviction, but the thing that you shouldn’t be quick to forget is the confidence that oozes with every additional word he spits. What makes this release even better is the fact that it is supposed to be on an upcoming project entitled Pray 4 Shakewell that is hopefully going to be out soon, so while we wait for more information, make sure you don’t miss out on this all-out hit by the man, the myth, the legend, Shakewell.
