Still Rollin – [FBL JB]

Not being able to find information about an artist I come across can often be frustrating because the first thing I love to do is learn about their background and how they got their start in the industry. As I’ve gone on and continued writing more and more, though, I feel like the underground acts that populate in my inbox seem to be more mysterious than ever, and I’ve grown to enjoy this for two reasons. One is the fact that I know they’re a hidden gem considering no one else has really covered their music in the past from what I can find, so I am always grateful to be one of the first ones to show love to true talents.

The other reason is that I get to enjoy their music without any preconceived notions or biases, so I have no chance of reading something and making assumptions before listening to the music in its purest form. The most recent emcee I found out about is FBL JB, an emcee who certainly has his own distinct sound and a very captivating charisma with the way he seems to carry himself, and after listening to his song “Still Rollin”, I was immediately intrigued. Produced by Jojosantana, the instrumental is catchy but also not too extreme, allowing JB’s somewhat reserved mannerisms to shine even when he doesn’t seem to try too hard.

That’s not to say that he’s lazy or careless, though, because he just seems to know that his skills speak for themselves, and he knows that he doesn’t have to be someone he’s not as he sings over the effervescent instrumental. I think that says so much more about his artistry than any façade or forced personality ever could as well, and I think it’s going to go a very long way when connecting with his consistently growing fanbase. FBL JB may still be early in his career, but he has an undeniable knack for music and I think “Still Rollin” certainly won’t be the last I’ll be hearing from the rising musician.
