Sticky – [TyFontaine]

TyFontaine has been on an absolute tear ever since he took the music scene by storm not too long ago. Since then, he has been one of the most consistent artists in the game, dropping countless singles, projects, and visuals that all prove my point that I’ve made in the past about him being one of my favorite talents out right now. His most recent project We Ain’t the Same is an album that I revisit on a constant basis, and although it’s almost impossible to choose a favorite track off of the incredible record, his song “Sticky” was a favorite early on after just my first listen, and I’m beyond pleased that it now has an unbelievable JMP-directed visual to pair with it.

As the mystifying, angelic strings and jazzy saxophone begin to play out within the beat, there is an animated be flying around jars of honey being poured, starting out strong with the sticky themes that relate to the title of the track. The first person we see is a beautiful woman who is pouring honey on her hand before Ty is shown, staring deep into her soul in a very loving, lustful fashion. The shots used are super high quality and certain scenes contain an almost early 2000’s R&B filter that gives some oversaturated lights more room to shine as the sun glistens on their skin through the large window next to them.

As they get close with each other, the camera shakes for specific shots that complement that heartrate accelerating vibe of the track before Ty begins to roll a blunt on her back prior to sparking it up and smoking with his lovely companion. On a somewhat comical note, Cxdy, an incredible producer on the Internet Money roster who also helped create this beat, tweeted out the fact that Ty basically dropped off a softcore pornography video for this sexual record, and that description couldn’t be more spot-on if I had thought of it myself. While I’ve seen more inappropriate music videos in the past, this is definitely a very sensual visual that isn’t for children, if I do say so myself.

About halfway through, the camera pans into more honey jars before gliding back out and exposing the couple in a wide-open field surrounded by tall grass and mountains for one of the most beautiful sceneries you’ll see in all of music. Here, the two individuals pick up where they left off, getting in touch with one another on a deep, physical level. However, this only lasts for a moment before they head back to the original scene. Right before they finally kiss, the woman begins to disappear in the form of a swarm of bees, flying off out of the window, leaving Ty sitting there alone.

Although I’m not sure if I’m interpreting this ending correctly, I took it as a bit of a metaphor for Ty where he thinks of women in a very sweet manner but remembers that they have the potential to sting and/or fly away in the blink of an eye. It’s no secret that many of his songs are related to the feelings and emotions he goes through within his relationships, and this track is no different, combining with the music video perfectly to visually portray the lyrics he sings. While this is just another example of why I truly believe that Ty is a star, I can’t wait to see what else he has in store for fans in the form of videos to accompany his remarkable project, but you already know I’ll be the first to take notice of these offerings, so stay tuned. “Sticky” is the latest addition to TyFontaine’s arsenal of incredible visuals, so make sure you tune in whenever you find a moment.
