It wasn’t too long ago that I put you all onto one of my favorite rising r&b acts of the last 12 months, SPIRITSAVER, who I wrote about after strolling across their song, “Killing Us Slowly”, last winter. Just for safe measures, I thought it might be wise to remind you all again about how special these guys truly are as they recently greeted us with their new single, “THREATS”, late last month. Love, doubt, and desire intertwine in the captivating tune where we learn of a relationship coming to a close that maybe could’ve ended a bit cleaner than one would’ve hoped. In the song, we hear the Toronto-based psychedelic R&B duo, comprised of Grammy-Nominated producer Zale, and Nigerian-Canadian recording artist Tajudeen, take listeners on an emotional rollercoaster which they’re beginning to have a track record of doing.
Kicking it off overtop of some light piano and guitar, we’re quickly greeted by Tajudeen’s emotion-filled vocals that are clearly in the midst of dealing with heartache. Delving deep into the complexities of a relationship torn between conflicting emotions, Tajudeen weaves a lyrical narrative that resonates with anyone who has ever grappled with matters of the heart as he speaks on a time of great change in his life. Behind the scenes, Zale joined forces with Juno-Nominated Producer Jackson Willows, and their collaborative production work on “Threats” showcases a sonic landscape that complements the song’s themes, making for an immersive listening experience that lingers in the mind long after the music fades.
