Last year leading into the majority of this year, Lil Keed has been absolutely killing it in terms of releasing new content. Whether he dropped of loosies, TOC3, music videos, or guest verses, there was once a time where it felt like we couldn’t go a few days, let alone a week, without getting some new Keed in our hands. Although it’s been probably a few weeks since his last release at this point, it seems like an eternity due to his somewhat notorious consistency.
Luckily, he’s back once again with a brand-new visual for his record “Show Me What You Got”, a song that recruits O.T. Genasis and is supposed to help spread the word of the deluxe version of his latest full-length effort. Some sort of piano or distorted guitar chords are used to create an unsteady yet constant melody that is brought new life through thunderous drums and rattling percussive elements. As Keed repeats the name of the song in the chorus, his ad-libs are basically screamed in the distance in order to contribute some personality to the otherwise basic hook.
To his credit, it seems like he knows just when his flow begins to slightly drone on or get monotonous because he always seems to switch it up at the exact moment he needs to. Going into his verse, he chops up his words and delivers them one at a time before almost coming off as angry, hastily spitting his bars with this aggressiveness behind each and every lyric. Before O.T. comes in, you can hear his deeply spoken ad-libs paving the way for his introduction. He begins his portion with a similarly chopped up cadence like Keed, but he soon changes things up and swings his vocal tonality all over the place, adding even more playfulness to this bouncy beat. He ends up finishing his verse with about two fast lines before Keed comes in for one more chorus and the instrumental ultimately leads us out of the song.
As for the video, the two talents take us to some sort of high school that seems to be open late for some scenes, considering the rooms are dark with a red light illuminating each scene. Other shots at the beginning show a class that’s getting their homework back or something of that nature before some cheerleaders get up and start dancing around, prompting the whole class to join in on the fun. As Keed makes his way through the classroom or around the school, girls are writing notes with his name inside of hearts as well as seemingly daydreaming about him as they’re supposed to be paying attention to class. Prior to O.T.’s arrival, the camera showcases some sort of pep rally or step show outside of the school where some groups are doing choreographed dances in front of the headlights of a few cars. When he does come in for his verse, he’s basically seen in every single setting that Keed was prior to this point, except instead of red lights brightening up each scene, Blue lights accompany O.T. instead.
It’s been an absolutely massive year for Lil Keed when you look at the sheer amount of work he has put out, and it’s because of this, as well as his unique sound, that his inclusion on the XXL Freshman list makes so much sense. He’s learning from the best, Young Thug, and becoming Thugger’s protégé a couple of years ago was probably the smartest decision Keed has made in his entire life because Thug doesn’t just believe in any regular artist. Beyond this, I’m absolutely stoked about the deluxe version of Trapped On Cleveland 3 because I still relisten to the original fairly regularly, so even more greatness is about to be in our midst on October 30th. Until then, make sure you revisit the album again and check out his latest music video for his latest song “Show Me What You Got” featuring O.T. Genasis.
