Shimmy – [Aminé]

As an artist who is already known for putting out captivating music videos, Aminé may have even outdone himself with the latest visual for his track “Shimmy”. Directed by Aminé and Pscho Films’ Jack Begert, the video showcases the artist repping his home city of Portland as he flexes for the camera and kicks off what feels like a new era for his music.

The song and video mark a fascinating new direction for the Portland hip-hop hitmaker as he trades his usual bright, comedic tone for a more aggressive one that he executes effortlessly. At the same time, “Shimmy” still sounds like the Aminé that fans have come to know and love, and his charisma still comes through as clear as ever before here. He talks his shit while showing off his refined skills as a lyricist, functioning as an alarming wake-up call for anyone who may have fallen asleep on him. Not to mention he flips the classic ODB sample at the core of the song in a way that pays homage to the original track while still bringing into his own wheelhouse. Watch the video for “Shimmy” below:
