A record that’s been particularly resonating with me over the past two months has been FIG’s, “Seeking For Connection”. If you’ve paid any attention to the indie pop or r&b scene over the last year, chances are you’ve come across the promising up-and-comer, FIG, and more likely than not you’ve had a similar reaction to me – this girl is really, really good at making music. After releasing her 8-song EP, “BUD”, last November, filled with gems like “Chit Chat”, “Cooking For One” and “Bing Bong Love Song”, the NYC-based artist found her way onto tour opening for dhruv before returning to the release circle for her recent single, “Seeking For Connection”, in May.
In the song, we hear FIG’s storytelling in debatably its most raw and honest form yet. While we’re used to more uplifting vibes from FIG, in “Seeking For Connection” we see FIG take a turn in contextual direction as she bases the song on a breakdown she had while walking the streets of New York City crying and frustrated at herself as she struggled to make genuine connections with people. Perfect for fans of artists such as Sylvan Esso or Kate Bollinger, “Seeking For Connection” is a moody tune to enjoy on a rainy day where you might just feel the need to be in your own mind and explore the idea of what you’re missing in your journey of fulfillment.
