Save the Penguins – [Kelo of Dopeness] & [Kaidontrap]

If you’re a part of the Lyrical Lemonade family, chances are you have your hand in more than one piece of art. For me, I am obviously a writer, but I also love my marketing day job, sports, art, and fashion, amongst other things. While I wish I was as talented in other things as I am in writing (not to sound conceited), I give so much credit to people who are great at more than one creative skill, and Kelo of Dopeness is someone I truly admire.

Although I haven’t had the luxury of meeting him quite yet, I know that he does so much work behind the scenes at most of the Lyrical Lemonade music video shoots and other company-related events, but what I think needs to get a lot more shine is his music, because he is seriously such a versatile, naturally talented emcee that deserves boatloads more credit. As he has been preparing for the release of his song “Save the Penguins” alongside Kaidontrap, I have gotten more and more excited thanks to the constant visual snippet sharing he has done over the past few weeks, and now that the video is finally here, I am beyond thrilled.

Alongside a music video that was directed by Rocky, McKay Leduke, and even a shot from Mr. Cole Bennett himself, this record is truly unique, enthralling, and addicting after hearing it even just once. Kaidontrap is a new name on my radar, but his vocals are just so different that I am eager to see what other tracks he has put out in order to experience what kind of dexterity he has. His voice is so calm and smooth, but it has this unique twang to it that’s hard to explain with words, but just believe me when I say he possesses so much skill.

Kelo kills his parts, unsurprisingly, boasting a richer yet slightly gritty delivery that contains hints of melodiousness that peak out when you least expect them to, elevating his parts to the point that I think I’ll be humming along to this tune for quite some time moving forward. Although it’s not surprising in the slightest, Kelo and Kaidontrap both absolutely kill it on “Save the Penguins”, and with such an impeccably crisp music video that pairs with this record, I couldn’t be more satisfied with the outcome after hanging onto the edge of my seat for weeks!
