At this point in time, I’ve been heavily invested in the world of underground hip-hop music, and with the time I’ve spent paying attention to the scene, there are a few names that will never not be legendary. One artist I know who has been making waves in the underground scene for close to a half-decade is Candypaint, an emcee who has switched up his style and vibe many times over the years, but he never fails to impress me with every new song he puts out.
Although his older music might have been a bit more upbeat, fast-paced, and even ignorant at times, that’s just how the scene was back then, but with growth comes maturity, and now he’s putting out some hits that might be a bit more scaled back, but they’re still songs that show exactly how talented he truly is, and I’m so glad I could be here to see his progression first-hand.
Recently, he has been going through some rough moments in his personal life, so when he dropped his song “Sad Story”, it was a bit random but also very impactful and left a lasting impression on me with the new direction he decided to head in. Alongside this jazzy, introspective song comes a Tinytapes and Oraziooo-directed music video that pairs unbelievably well with the record, and I couldn’t wait to share it with you all when I finally got a chance to check it out myself.
Things are kept relatively simplistic in nature within this visual as he pretty much just hangs out in the backyard around a pool at night, but the edits that are added into this one bring it to new levels that really drew me in more than I could’ve expected. Whether there are flowers rapidly growing, leaves floating around him, or cell phones hovering in his vicinity, there is always something new and captivating in this video, making it a visual you’re going to want to check out as soon as you can.
