Bringing the Studio Monk hype into the new year, and continuing to flex his skills, Junia grabs Jessie Reyez for his latest album preview, “Sad Face Emojis.” The strutting bass is sure to grab your ear, but Junia’s board work combines a few other elements–headnodic rhythm and a great horn breakdown–to create a jazzy, subtly-danceable groove. Reyez caps things off with her unique, raw vocals, that are loaded with emotional authenticity but still fit the smooth feel of the board work.
