Rookie of the Year – [Taz Money]

Tampa may not necessarily be world renown for the music scene in the city compared to other Floridian towns, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t contain a few emcees that are more than worth checking out. I mean, if you really think about it, any town in the world, big or small, most likely has someone making music, and even if not all of these aspiring musicians are worthwhile, there are definitely a handful that truly are.

A few months ago, I was put onto Tampa native Taz Money and his single “Damage” which was a cover of H.E.R.’s song by the same name, and even though I’m not typically a huge fan of covers, this one really stood out to me because it seemed so fresh and different as Taz was able to show off a plethora of talents that caught my attention.

My intrigue was piqued, and I knew I wanted to hear more, so when I found out that he dropped an EP called Rookie of the Year that had zero features, I knew that this would be an awesome way to get a firmer grasp of his skillset. Taz truly brings the heat on each and every song, giving us 7 new tracks that span almost 16 and a half minutes long. Starting out hot with some fast-paced bangers, he shows off how nimble he is over a faster tempo and entertaining samples, constantly berating the beats he uses without letting up whatsoever.

He does take a few moments to slow things down too, though, and this is where I feel like his range is completely showcased because he is able to prove that he doesn’t need to spit rapid lines repeatedly in order to be able to carry a song. Taz Money is next up out of Tampa, and if that’s hard for you to believe for some reason, you better check out Rookie of the Year and see why I feel this way.
