Last year YBN Cordae burst onto the scene with “Rap N*ggas,” a viral response to J. Cole’s “1985,” over Cole’s beat. Now, just a year later, he’s back on a Cole beat… only this time… it’s an original.
With his highly-anticipated debut album, The Lost Boy, dropping Friday, Cordae makes quite the statement on “RNP,” boasting a Cole beat and Anderson .Paak feature.
Not too many rookies could land a star-studded track like this, because, quite frankly, not too many rookies could keep up with the showstopping ability of both Cole and .Paak. Cordae, however, isn’t your average rookie and brings a ton of charisma and effortless flow to match. Here, shared verse style, he matches the ostentatious swagger of .Paak (which is no easy feat), as the two go back-and-forth, putting a new spin on the “Mo money, mo problems” mentality.
Armed with a tracklist that reads like an Avengers movie, Cordae is running with the big dogs right out the gate, and if “RNP” is any indication, he’ll have no trouble delivering when The Lost Boy drops this Friday.
