Ransah broke his longtime project silence this past weekend with the release of his “Relief EP.” The project is an introspective offering, catching his fans up to what has been going on with him as of late. The 197 affiliate and Lucki collaborator has been somewhat of a ghost after gaining recognition for his early releases and memorable additions to each Lucki project to release to date. The project features production from alternative trap pioneer Plu20 Nash, Ugly eddie, and Mayhem Meech. Ransah and these producers have had long working relationships. We recently caught up with Ransah for a quick Q+A session before his EP was released. He gave us some exclusive information on upcoming material and his focus as an artist. LL: So Ransah, how’re you feeling about the tape?
RS: I feel that i’m just cleaning the vault a bit. Really tryna clear the cataglog. This Relief tape is just a pre drop to my real tape called BAIT.
LL: Explain the title BAIT?
RS: I’m getting people back to listening. You know, like “on the hook”. Gaining a new audience.
LL: So who handled production on this Relief tape? How’d that come together. We know you Plu2o and Mayhem have worked in the past.
RS: ugly eddie & plu2o nash co produced three of the five tracks. mayhem meech made the other two. these are like my brothers, and us working is second nature at this point
LL: Do you feel that you owe the fans a project? We’ve heard you most recent work with Lucki. But, it seems that so many people would ask about your feature and when you were releasing more material. Did you feel pressured to put something out?
RS: I do feel that i owe it to the fans. But i didn’t feel pressured. I’m a perfectionist, i don’t mind scrapping songs or redoing verses. If i don’t like it, i won’t put it out.
LL: Where have you been these last few months? We heard you were out in California for a bit. How was that for you?
RS: Yeah I was out there in Cali for a bit. Me and Plu2o working as usual. The Cali fans are cool but i get alot of love back at the crib(Chicago).
LL: age?
RS:20, but it don’t really hold me back. We started young, so we know our stuff and we have been exposed for a while too. So, 197 ANTI we a family of people that are working hard and we young so we got time. We don’t have time but we do.
LL: Do you have any visuals coming out soon? You released Chemicals a while back.
RS: I’ve worked with Brian from Elevator Mag. We have a couple vaulted videos. I do consider visuals important but it all goes back to wanting to put out the best material you can.
LL: How big would you say your vault is right now?
RS: Pretty big, I never wanna force it. I want to be 100% confident in everything. People gravitate to quality over quantity. None of the stuff from the vault is going on BAIT though. It’ll all be new from this interview forth haha.
LL: Do you have any live shows coming up?
RS: I mean, I’ve been asked but i turn down shows a bit. But im performing really really soon.
LL: What features can we expect on BAIT?
RS: Most likely Lucki. but i’m not sure yet. Qari from Hurt Everybody. We have a couple vaulted tracks. That’s my guy for real. Expect that BAIT will have more visuals.
LL: Last question, how do you feel about signing?
RS: I mean I got a good group of people around me. I’m not stressing signing. If it sound right, maybe I could think about it. I’m not shunning labels but i aint looking for them either.
LL: Last words?
