Rising Vietnamese-American artist Thuy is back on the scene with a new music video to “Figured u Out” from her highly acclaimed debut EP “I hope u see this.” Directed by Brandon Lee Davis, “Figured u Out” playful 90’s esthetics was a sight to see. This song isn’t your typical depressing breakup anthem. Instead, Thuy wanted to capture the total opposite.
“’ Figured u Out’ is about a toxic relationship but I didn’t want to make the video about that. I wanted to make it more abstract and quirky and about actually figuring things out.” says thuy. “There are scenes with the detective aspects and games such as Tic Tac Toe, Rubik’s cubes, and puzzles to hint at the theme. It’s a really playful video with a bit of satire. I wanted to film it this way since the song is an upbeat anthem for the girls that were going through a breakup. My whole goal was to make it more playful rather than have the guy be the main focus of the video.”
The now Los Angeles-based artist has received recognition over the years for her angelic vocals, skillful songwriting, and modern R&B stylings. She has racked up over 85 million streams across the world.
Her latest EP showed off her euphonious voice and high-spirited personality. The EP as a whole, speaks on moving on after a breakup with confidence and regaining focus on what matters in your life.
“Had to get up out real fast. Left you in the past, that’s that. No love when I swerve right past Cut you off, yeah, it’s just like that.”
