Earlier this year, Atlanta native Swavay released his renowned album, Pure Infinity. Now, the man himself is back and ready for the spotlight with his latest EP, Pure Pack. 3 tracks long, and following the theme of “purity” that Swavay seems to be honing in on as of late, the new EP almost feels like an extension of the album, stretching the budding talent’s no-nonsense, high bar for quality into yet another release for the ages. The music is solid, the concepts are well-executed, and if not anything else, Pure Pack is a reminder that Swavay is here, and he’s here to last.
That said, the EP runs across three tracks: “Dog Food,” “Hood Dreamz,” and “Better.” Kicking things off with “Dog Food,” we watch the Boominati signee tackle a soulful base of instrumentation, speaking to the universal motivator: money. Equal parts ambitious and deeply reflective, the song bleeds right into the trap-induced energy of “Hood Dreamz,” letting Swavay take a post-album victory lap as he sprints through the instrumental with ease. As for the finale, “Better,” Pure Pack decides to hit us with a curve ball, and finds Swavay crooning over an R&B-induced instrumental. One note after the other, the passion-packed vocals seep right into the production, and the result is a sentimental way to finish off an action-packed EP.
In just 3 songs, Swavay can illustrate an entire world of motivations, emotions, ups, and downs, never missing a beat along the way. All things considered, Swavay is rapping like his life depends on it, and listeners seem to be responding.
