Between Lucky Daye, Snoh Aalegra, Leven Kali, and about a thousand more R&B artists worthy of mention, it’s been a good year for R&B fans. There’s still one I am highly anticipating; the new album from Niia.
The sultry crooner has yet to reveal the title and release date, but returning with “Pull Up,” her third release of the year, it may be sooner than later.
As for “Pull Up,” where prior releases (like “Face”) have a darker edge, this one has a lighter feel. Here, her silky vocals are draped atop production that blends a danceable backdrop with some almost orchestral strings; a unique, refreshing blend. In addition to some amazing vocals, the track is equipped with a sleek, stylish video featuring the freestyle dribbling of Anastasia Bagahlini.
Niia’s sound is amazing, but for me, it’s not just the music but her presentation. She always presents her music with stylish, engaging visuals and her youtube channel is filled with some really stellar content like covers, interviews, and pop-up videos. From her sound, to the visuals, and the marketing, Niia’s style and originality makes her one of my favorite artists. If you dig “Pull Up,” I recommend digging through her other content while we wait for the album.
