Joe Reeves is an up and coming producer that everyone should have their eye on at this point. With so much talent circulating the world right now, my mission is to single out those who are worth paying attention to and it’s a fact that Joe falls into that category. The London born and raised talent has been putting together a respectable resume for himself that includes, Man of the Year (Juice WRLD), Broadway Girls (Lil Durk), System (Dave ft. Wizkid) & I Don’t Want Your Money (Ed Sheeran ft. HER).With a stacked discography like that, it’s only right that we take some time to ask Joe a few questions so our readers and listeners can get to know this phenomenal beat maker who is undeniably on the rise!

Sam: What inspired you to pursue music in the first place?
Joe: I actually didn’t pursue a career in music. I was working as a runner for an editing house, and all I would do was make music in whatever free time I had. I used to post videos of me playing guitar on instagram, just for my friends. From there, by a series of very fortunate events, it became my career. Making music has always been my outlet, whether I’m in the best mood or the worst. It’s the one thing I could do all day, every day, and never get tired of. I feel anything you can do every day and not get tired of is worth pursuing.

Sam: What’s your favorite song that you’ve been a part of and why?
Joe: It’s hard to say, it’s between ‘Man of the Year’ and ‘Heart Attack’ by Dave. Me and my good friend Rex Kudo made Man of The Year late at night just before Juice pulled up to the studio in London. We were moving at a million miles an hour to get it ready in time – we were still standing around a mic recording stomps and claps when he arrived. Juice heard it, jumped in the booth and did the whole song in minutes. I’ve never seen anything like it and the energy when he came out was insane. There’s a video of him going live after he recorded it and I still get that feeling of that energy whenever someone tags me in it on instagram.
Heart Attack was a full circle moment for me. Dave reposting my video on Instagram was what started my entire career, so to now be making music with him – especially songs as powerful as Heart Attack – still doesn’t feel real to me. A large part of that song is just acoustic guitar and Dave’s voice – you can hear the human elements in acoustic recordings especially, so when I hear that song I can hear things in the guitar part that put me back in the room when I was recording it.

Sam: What advice would you give to an up and coming producer who is hungry for success?
Joe: Make music for the sake of making music, and make it for yourself. I believe you can always hear when music is authentic to whoever made it, and trying to be like someone else often fails because that other person already exists – have faith in yourself!
