I think DC the Don has had one of the biggest years in 2022 than anyone, but it’s amazing to think that he is just barely getting his feet off of the ground. Back in October, I had the absolute pleasure of seeing him perform live, meeting up with him after the show, and chopping it up a little bit, but even with so much excitement and chaos going on all night, there was one thing I noticed that stood above the rest. DC was genuinely appreciative of everything that he has earned.
Whether it was the various articles I’ve written, the die-hard fans that came to the show, his day-one teammates, or just the success he has achieved, I knew nothing was being taken for granted and he was one of those artists that I am elated to know has accomplished so much, even this early on in his career. Ahead of his album FUNERAL, DC has blessed fans with a handful of unbelievable works of art, and while I’m later than usual when it comes to his SevenEight-directed video single “Poison”, I wasn’t going to let time prevent me from checking it out.
Produced by Lovesick, this one shows off his diversity like always as it’s a more hyperpop-prominent jam, pulsating with electronic sounds that allow DC to get animated, spirited, and nimble, taking his flows in whichever direction he wants. In the video, the rising phenom takes us along on a trip to a carnival as he tries to pick up the pieces and find happiness after his relationship seems to have ended.
Accompanied by a stuffed bear, the duo hops on some rides, plays some games, and wanders around the fairgrounds. Although DC seems to be having a good time, there is this hint of sadness or melancholy that comes with each new endeavor, and I think the way he shares these feelings so clearly with his facial expressions and overall demeanor adds another layer to his already truthful and sincere music, making every DC the Don release an immediate can’t-miss hit!
