PIRATE RADIO* – [Jean Dawson]

Few people have been able to incorporate the amount of originality and imagination into their music as Jean Dawson, but that’s not saying a ton considering he is one of the pioneers of outside-the-box thinking and bringing new ideas to life in his own unique way. Everything from the music itself to his visuals are one of a kind and you won’t experience his offerings the same way if anyone else tried to replicate them. I mean, there is just some unexplainable innovation that he utilizes with each new drop, and even if you think you may have an idea of what you can expect, he will deliver something completely different but still immaculate, nonetheless.

You can’t corner him into any specific genre because he pretty much makes it all, and as he gears up to release his upcoming album CHAOS NOW* on October 7th, this has been an obvious fact with the singles he has been releasing. It’s no surprise that massive artists like SZA and A$AP Rocky both admire his artistry, and considering they’re both been working with him in the studio recently, there is no limiting his potential. Today, Jean is back with another insanely great single called “PIRATE RADIO*” produced by himself, Austin Corona, and Wyatt Bernard.

This song dives into a softer, more introspective territory than his previous track “THREE HEADS*”, but even with the cavernous, profound ideas that went into this record, there is this prominence and persevering vibe that made me personally feel as if I could overcome anything, even if the odds were heavily stacked against me. In the Bradley J. Calder-directed music video, Jean further shows off his creative mind with a slew of unique scenes that I simply can’t explain well enough to even attempt.

At the same time, it’s a visual that has my mind racing and my thoughts wandering, something that never fails to transpire whenever I view any of the motion pictures he releases. I am beyond eager to hear the body of art that is set to drop on October 7th, but my hope that he’ll continue to drop fantastic singles until then remains strong, so make sure you catch up with this unbelievable song and video from the Tijuana/San Diego-raised groundbreaker.
