PHANTOM – [Frank Leone] x [GRIMM Doza]

Shortly after the release of his impressive DON’T LP, Chicago artist Frank Leone keeps his hot-streak rolling with a new single titled “PHANTOM.” With ominous production from New Jersey producer GRIMM Doza, the bass-heavy instrumental matches the rapid pace of Leone’s storytelling. The subject matter is purposefully rampant, which details the time Leone was arrested outside the Trump Tower during the George Floyd protests (specifically at the end of May when the state re-opened). Filming the violent displays from the police via Instagram Live, Leone opportunistically used a specific shot for the cover of this song. The chorus recites: “Outside where they let’em lie, off sides we ain’t broken rank, cops slide, wild, they weaponized, man, I been cross-eyed glaring down that aim.” Overall, the record demonstrates Leone’s ability to paint a frightening picture of an event to precise detail.
