Out of all the incredible talents that are rising to the top of the Chicago rap scene, the DCG brothers have been making moves unlike any other artists in the industry. Although they’re clearly heavily influenced by Drill music, they have their own minimal, simplistic style that sets them apart from anyone else making this style of music, and their personalities are as entertaining and enthralling as anyone you can think of coming out of the Windy City.
They’ve been working hard and grinding for the past few months, and this incredible work ethic is part of the reason they’ve stood out to fans as well, and their careers are only just getting started. Most recently, they decided to bless listeners with a brand-new song and music video entitled “Paparazzi”, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you. The beat is minimal yet again, boasting consistent, punchy kick drums that are complemented by old school hits and rattling, quieted percussion.
To work seamlessly into the production, Bsavv comes in for the hook, remaining even-keeled and never really raising his tone of voice beyond the steady, consistent cadence he is already delivering. Although his pitch is fairly fixed throughout, there is a hint of attitude and aggression that only the DCG brothers know how to implement throughout, and this adds additional elements to their bars that simply can’t be added in throughout the post-production process. During his verse, some more noticeable claps are included, elevating the energy of the instrumental which causes Bsavv to switch up his flow slightly and provide us with some slightly heightened enthusiasm that is brought to new heights with some of his energetic background ad-libs.
As Shun comes in for his verse, he boasts a similar and familiar style to that of his brother, never really going off the rails in terms of charisma, but the same can’t be said for some of the impressive cadences he sprinkles in throughout. He does switch things up briefly for one line that he whispers, trying to share some sort of secret that clearly won’t be contained after the thousands of ears hear it while listening to this record. Finally, Bsavv goes into one final hook to round out the record and send us on our way once and for all.
As for the visual, the brothers team up with No More Heroes yet again to present this compelling new music video. As it opens, Bsavv and Shun are smoking and chilling in their house that is dark but remains illuminated by some blue and red-tinted lights. Bsavv continuously peaks out the window to see constant flashing, things that I can only imagine are put in place to emulate the hordes of paparazzi that have accumulated outside their residence. Throughout the record, every time Bsavv mentions the paparazzi, still shots are shown of the rappers to replicate the pictures that these cameramen and women simply can’t stop taking.
While in the house, they fashion a circle of cash on the ground that Bsavv sits inside of and continues to recite his lines. About halfway through, they take their luxurious blue car out to a parking lot where they get out, flash their stacks of money, and continue to spit their bars while braggadociosly flexing all their chains and designer garments. Although there are consistent themes that are reminiscent of many other Drill videos, the two talents bring new life to this style with some individualistic scenes and make sure that this visual is going to stand out amongst the crowd.
Although the DCG brothers are just getting started, they’re off to one of the hottest starts I can think of. I’m not sure they’ll ever make it to the mainstream audiences that other Chicago legends have just because they seem to have the nonchalant attitudes that they’re enjoying where they’re at and making money with what they’re doing, so I definitely don’t think that’s even necessary, because their cult following is only going to continue to grow and bring more success their way. Most, if not all of their songs are loosies and singles, and although I haven’t heard any word of a cohesive project on the horizon, I can’t help but keep my hopes up that we’re going to see a project in the near future. Either way, they’re going to remain consistent with their unbelievable offerings and I couldn’t really ask for anything more even if I wanted to. Make sure to check out “Paparazzi” as soon as possible and keep your eye on the powerful tag team because they’re definitely going to continue to make major moves as they progress in their young, blossoming careers.
