Outside – [Oliver Malcolm]

Between “Kevin,” “Switched Up,” “Helen,” and two other singles thus far, Oliver Malcolm has quickly established himself as an unruly musical mind, full of colors and never predictable. The grand, nearly spastic tendencies of his music act as the very reasons for its brilliance, and this unpredictability is simply a product of Malcolm’s unrivaled versatility and natural talent. He’s one-of-a-kind to say the least, and the music shows it.

Yet, as wild as Malcolm’s music has gone thus far, the UK-bred talent decided to look in a different direction for his latest offering: inwards. “Outside” is the newest release from Malcolm, and it’s a bleak look at the differences between perspective and reality as a musician. You’re cool, people love you, and your lifestyle seems massively interesting, but inside, there’s a loneliness that only an artist could know. And over a bed of gentle guitar strokes and beautiful vocal runs, Malcolm tries to make this known, turning “Outside” into an incredible, “walk a mile in my shoes” kind of release. His songwriting abilities are on 10 here, and while the song is quite sad in its meaning, it’s some of the most impressive work we’ve heard from Oliver Malcolm to date.

The visuals act in a similar manner, so all I can say is to check this one out for yourself below. Oliver Malcolm never stops impressing me, and his latest release is one that slows things down and takes a peak into the psyche behind the genius.

“Outside” is equal parts heartbreaking and beautiful and riveting – peep the official music video below:
