If you’re even somewhat familiar with Lyrical Lemonade, you’ve definitely heard of TheHxliday. Beyond that, if you’ve heard of him and listened to his music, then it’s pretty much assumed that you’re a fan because he’s one of the most intriguing and entertaining young acts in the entire country. Whether he’s singing melodic verses full of heartbreak and pain or rapping his heart out, his skills are apparent, and considering he’s only 19 years old, it’s even more exciting to see what he’s going to do as he gets older, more experienced, and truly masters his craft more than anyone could have imagined.
While certain artists need some sort of reason to drop content whether it’s to promote an upcoming project or continue the legacy of a previous release, TheHxliday just likes to please fans in any way he can, whenever he can. This is one of my favorite things about the young talent, and he decided to drop off a random song entitled “Opps” along with a wonderful music video to accompany it. Damian Vinh Hien produced this hit with some deep 808s, chattering percussion, and a subdued melody, but the Baltimore hitmaker steals the show with his energetic cadences and variable deliveries.
In the music video, he pulls up in an all-black Bentley before hopping out and bringing the unexpected to life. Instead of smoking a blunt or drinking lean like most other artists might proceed to do, he actually turns into a baby. Obviously, this isn’t anything crazy, but his head pops up through the bottom of a makeshift cradle where the rest of the stuffed baby’s body is laying, making it look like he has shrunk down and reversed time to just about 18 years ago. Aside from this, there are so many colors, scene changes, and enthralling concepts that are incorporated throughout, it turns into one of those videos that you just have to see to be able to appreciate all of the thought and creativity that went into it.
If you’re somehow not familiar with TheHxliday quite yet, he is someone you definitely need to put on your radar if you’re a fan of any form of punk rap or melodic trap music. He has cited inspirations like Trippie Redd and XXXtentacion to name a few, and while these iconic artists clearly influence his sound at times, he has made his own individualistic style that is as good as it gets. I feel like he deserves so much more recognition than he receives, but his fans are going to continue to appreciate and support him, so make sure you do the same and check out his latest record “Opps” below.
