New York rap is in a very weird place right now with several competing scenes and styles all captivating the city at once and while old stars begin to phase out into more mainstream or administrative careers, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie has managed to continue on the Highbridge legacy with Lil Rekk who has been dazzling the city himself with his melodic style and unique charisma that has allowed him to quickly grow his fanbase. Rekk’s latest track “Ooters” is some of my favorite work from him yet and is also made great by the production trio of Rxddie, J, and Okami who created a suspenseful and ominous atmosphere with upbeat and trunk-shaking drums that worked as an ideal backdrop for Rekk’s captivating vocals. Lil Rekk is only getting more popular with each video that he drops and while he is sitting atop the New York underground scene at the moment it is only a matter of time until he is pushed into the mainstream’s focus.
