If you’ve followed along to my writing over the past year and some months, you shouldn’t be surprised to hear that I’m a massive fan of the movement going on in the Florida rap scene. While there are a few names that have been nationally recognized, there are still so many talents that go unnoticed somehow, and Hotboii seems to be at the very top of this list. Luckily, Atlanta legend Future is never one to let great music or talented artists go unnoticed, so when I heard that he hopped in on a collaborative track called “Nobody Special”, I couldn’t resist tuning in.
While I wasn’t sure how these two artists’ sounds would mesh together since they both so unique and have such an individualistic sound, I was blown away at how seamless they worked with one another, delivering an unbelievable summer banger that is sure to get some playtime at any bar, club, poolside party, or other get-togethers after missing out on tons of fun this past Covid year. With ATL Jacob behind the production, you can hear some intense strings combined with synths prior to simplistic percussion and booming, bouncy drums coming into play for an insanely wonderful base that these two artists are going to shred to pieces.
As Hotboii makes his way throughout the hook as well as his verse, he shows off his Florida Drawl and southern twang while changing up his flows and showing off all the different skills he has perfected over his time in the industry. Later on, when Future enters the scene, he begins with a very raspy and somewhat toned-down delivery that progressively changes as his enthusiasm begins to heighten for his lengthy and all-around remarkable verse that fans are going to be rapping along with all summer long.
While Hotboii has been relatively quiet since he released his well-received album Double O Baby last year, it is clear with this heavy-hitting release that he’s ready to make even more waves than ever as 2021 continues on. Alongside the song comes a DrewFilmedIt-directed visual that is as lively as it gets with women, alcohol, and good vibes at a pool party, but I’ll let you check that out yourself. With even more new music on the horizon and his major festival debut at Rolling Loud Miami leading us into another project, it’s obvious that you’re not going to want to sleep on Hotboii any longer. So, make “Nobody Special” the wake-up call you need to finally give the Florida phenom the respect he is working so hard for and truly deserves.
