No Reason – [Bari]

Although St. Louis is in another state, it feels like a lot of the extremely talented emcees who call STL home have been welcomed with open arms here in Chicago, so I look at the city as an extension of my hometown. I couldn’t be happier, either, because these emcees have been putting on an absolute clinic for years, and his connections with Windy City spitters have resulted in countless features that are as unforgettable as each talent’s incredible discographies.

Bari is one of these musicians, and while a lot of fans know him through his work with Smino, Monte Booker, and other hitmakers, he is certainly much more than just another artist’s reliable guest on their music. Bari has been on a hot streak for quite some time, and while he might’ve slowed down over the past couple of years to seemingly reset and reintroduce himself into the music world, I feel like he hasn’t lost an ounce of his incredibly loyal following. His Groove-produced single “No Reason” dropped at the beginning of October and has since amassed over 130,000 Spotify plays.

Even though I had somehow missed out on it at first, the brand-new Chris Vergara-directed music video served as my introduction, and I’m certainly grateful that I didn’t have to go any longer without witnessing this jam. This is such a unique take on a sonic film because it is cinematic yet simple at the same time as viewers experience black-and-white scenes showcasing the emcee in his element. His lyrics are displayed in yellow writing towards the bottom of the screen, but it feels like much more than a stereotypical karaoke or sing-along-inspired flick.

I’m not sure if it’s the color scheme or what, but I definitely think the way Bari shares his remarkable talents with his audience just shines bright and exudes authenticity, something that fans have come to expect from the genuine and honest musician over the year. I certainly hope that this is the start of Bari’s musical revival, but only time will tell, so make sure you don’t miss out on the St. Louis phenom’s latest release any longer!
