No matter what industry you’re in whether it’s business, art, music, and beyond, you’ve most likely heard something along the lines of “it’s all about who you know.” Networking and having connections can help you get access to new exposure and maybe even lead to experiences that wouldn’t be accessible without that one person who knows somebody or has the power to expose you to new things. This is somewhat the case for UnoTheActivist whose cousin, Playboi Carti, had amassed a massive following and helped get his music to larger audiences. This isn’t taking away from Uno at all though, because his music speaks for itself and it was bound to explode at some point, Carti just helped expedite that process.
Luckily, Uno is back with a brand-new offering called “Night Mode”, featuring 2gramcam who I’m not as familiar with in all honesty. A holy-sounding organ, tapping percussion, and groovy, heavy-hitting bass sets the pace for this upbeat new track. Uno can be heard at the beginning almost itching for a Percocet, as he proclaims his love for it and details his thought process as it relates to the drug. For the introduction and hook, he sings in a high-pitched, mumbled voice that simulates a sort of worry that he’s not going to get to ingest his Percs soon enough.
There seems to almost be a slight transition in the song that might recreate the emotions going on in his head, as tropical instruments take over the beat and it sounds like he’s arrived in a heavenly place. 2gramcam came in for the second verse and blew me away in all honesty. His voice is very smooth but sounds somewhat similar to Uno, at least style-wise. He delivers a few slower bars to begin but gets into a unique flow as he works his way throughout this part of the song. Although it’s extremely evident that both artists go into a large amount of detail about their enjoyment of Percocet, they use similes and comparisons to talk about women, money, and even more drug use beyond the pills they’re pretty much serenading in this track.
Although lyrically this might not blow many people away, I was a huge fan of this offering. Uno’s voice just sounds addicting in a sense, and 2gramcam pairs perfectly with the Atlanta rapper. Not only are their words somewhat comical at times, but their inventive approaches to talking about the same things seemingly over and over keep the topics fresh and not nearly as repetitive as one might think. The beat also goes extremely hard, setting a quick tempo for the two artists to melodically mumble in such an appealing fashion. Supposedly this is the second single off of UnoTheActivist’s upcoming album 8, so I think we’re in for a real treat when that drops. For now, don’t sleep on “Night Mode” by UnoTheActivist featuring 2gramcam.
