Neighborhood Hero – [Almighty Beezy]

Almighty Beezy has quietly making a name for himself out of Nashville, TN despite being born in Decatur, Illinois and recently unloaded his mixtape Neighborhood Hero which is a fantastic debut from yet another young talent making a name for himself in Nashville’s scene that is growing more and more every month and I have a pretty strong feeling that Beezy is going to be around for a while. His beat selection is vastly different from most of his Nashville peers and instead is gravitating towards to Al’Geno/Mobile, AL sound that actually bears a lot of similarity to the country music sound that Nashville is known for with the inclusion of twangy, southern-fried guitar riffs that give his songs their melodic backbone.

He opens Neighborhood Hero with the genuine cut “Not A Pain Song” where he reveals a number of his struggles and paints a series of melancholic vignettes of his upbringing and tribulations he’s gone through to this point and also makes a point of reminding anyone who wishes him harm that he won’t hesitate to defend himself or the people he loves. “Designer” is one of Beezy’s best lyrical and vocal performances on the entire tape and he rides on the beat perfectly, matching inflections and pitch with the downtrodden and blues-y instrumental as well as layering his ad-libs to create an even greater atmosphere than the beat already created. “Survive” is the most mournful track on the mixtape where Beezy breaks down his pain from major things like losing close friends to violence or having family members incarcerated to more simple things like losing money gambling and doubters and even friends gossipping about you trying to tear you down to lift themselves up which is unfortunately something that everyone can relate to in this day and age. He recruited Jay Montana and ETF Rico as the only features on the project on the track “Perc 10” and honestly I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect collaboration than Jay Montana for Almighty Beezy after first hearing his music and Jay Montana floated onto this beat in his usual upbeat style with his distinct drawl and confidence.

Almighty Beezy’s consistency is really a marvel for such a young artist in pitch, lyrical content, and actual sonic qualities, sequencing the project thoughtfully and peeling back layers of personality and personal trials song by song. Neighborhood Hero’s outro track “Cross Me” is another fantastic performance from Beezy where he floats over the Chi-Chi produced instrumental that he truly walks over, living his life through each line of the song, breaking down tragedies, aspirations, and the danger of dealing with wolves in sheep’s clothing and he does so in beautiful fashion, working through his pain with each lyric and using the beat as his therapy.

I am really, really excited for what else Almighty Beezy has in store and am certain that his future is very bright and I just hope he can remain consistent and keep putting out solid, heartfelt music just like Neighborhood Hero.
