Although go back and listen to some of Slim Santana’s music from a few years ago that I got heavily into, I kind of somehow let him slip my mind. Luckily, he, alongside Glockboyz Teejaee and Cruwop, gave me an amazing refresher that sent me spiraling right back into the amazing sonic world that he creates. While I’m not familiar with the other two artists just yet, I was thoroughly impressed with what they brought to the table on their song “Moment of Silence”, and it was an even better reminder for me of just how talented Slim is.
I’m not entirely sure who produced this hit, but it contains some momentum-carrying synths as well as a slight vocal sample during portions that is eventually taken over by chattering percussion and thunderous drums for an almost Michigan-style rhythm that is taking the music world by storm right now. I’m not completely positive, but I believe that Teejaee starts this track off with his verse, boasting some confident and aggressive words that just roll off of his tongue effortlessly.
Slim takes over the minimalistic hook where the beat simplifies and he basically repeats the name of the song before coming in for the second verse, bringing all the energy in the world to the forefront of his delivery while showing off some of his trademark autotune that he seems to utilize much better than any other rapper out there. When Cruwop comes in to close out the record, he brings us back down to Earth a bit as his straightforward bars just pierce your ears and rattle your core making you pray that you’re not on the other end of his threats.
Although it’s been a while since I heard from Slim, it’s obvious that he hasn’t even slightly lost his tough. Beyond that, although I wasn’t familiar with the other two emcees, it’s obvious that they’re killing the game as well, showing off their versatile flows and unique sounds that are going to take them to the next level. While there is an ArtByArt-directed music video that comes along with this record and even features an appearance by the legend Yung Bans, I wanted to focus mainly on this awesome record itself, so make sure you tune in and check out the visual for “Moment of Silence” as well.
