Make It Out – [MillionDollarMini]

MillionDollarMini first exploded onto my radar this summer after his feel-good anthem “All In” that stayed in constant rotation for me for months, despite only being what I think was his first song and video, at least that he released. Coming out of Montgomery, Alabama Mini is facing a long list of challenges that many other rappers don’t have to face, at least not as greatly as he surely is, as his city is famously treacherous for successful artists, most notably Doe B who was murdered in The Gump in 2013 right before transforming from underground legend status to mainstream mainstay. Unlike “All In” his latest track and visual for “Make It Out” is not nearly as uplifting as the aforementioned track and rather lets his pain all show on this track, lamenting the violence and loss that is all too common in his hometown and chronicling the difficulty of having so many people expect so much of him, when in reality his heart has never been able to heal from the chaos that was his childhood and is life in the streets. His vocals are outstanding and I am eager to hear him find it more and more as he keeps recording music and develops more and more of his own unique style.
