Few artists in music can claim to be innovators and trendsetters for other up-and-comers, but when this is a badge you receive, you wear it with honor without a doubt. MadeinTYO came onto the scene years ago with viral hits like “Uber Everywhere” and “Skateboard P”, and even if it has been a little bit of time since we received a song that went as crazy as these did from him, he is on his grind now more than ever. UnoTheActivist is another legend who has created an entirely new soundscape all on his own, and even if he isn’t played on the radio all over the world, true fans know exactly how one of a kind he surely is.
Although I’m late to the party, these two icons teamed up in mid-December to drop a collaborative effort entitled Yokohama which features 16 songs running almost 47 minutes long and boasts guest appearances from MDMA and KA$HDAMI, ultimately delivering an album. That you don’t want to miss out on. In order to keep the momentum going, they also teamed up with Lonewolf (who seems to be everywhere at once recently) to shoot an inventive new music video for the project’s opener “Love Myself”.
In this one, they seem to build on a retro-inspired vibe that begins with an old-school Microsoft and Apple introduction, which continues throughout the visual. Both artists sit down in front of a computer and log in, transporting themselves into the big box of a monitor as pop-ups take over the screen before finding themselves in various other programs like video games, Microsoft Paint, chatrooms, and various other lo-fi scenes that are as entertaining and creative as ever.
I was absolutely blown away by this video as well as the two artist’s chemistry with one another, making “Love Myself” an essential watch before or after listening to the album in its entirety. If you still need your fix, though, you should catch these two on a countrywide tour (as well as a few dates in Canada) with some help from BIGBABYGUCCI and his Better Temperatures squad in a city near you!
