Love, Dad – [Dad]

The incomparable style of the Los Angeles based R&B savant known as Dad has yet to disappoint and beyond that surpasses expectations. His latest single, which comes in the form of a two-pack of songs, is a soulful clinic of graceful harmonies, alluring lyrics, and two overall R&B bops.

His songs “Love You” and “No Expectations” bring something unique to the table while remaining grounded in traditional R&B. The first single finds Dad catching an upbeat pocket, reiterating his want to love, in every way, shape, and form. The backdrop for the soulful single is comprised of tactical guitar chords, steady drums, and a medley of sounds from police sirens to undistinguishable chatter. One of the most interesting features of the song is its ghost-like female narrator, a voice that is predominantly heard at the end of the record, saying, “it’s been really good to hear your voice… I’m really glad you reached out… hopefully I talk to you soon.” With little hesitation, the voice disappears and launches you into the sweet sounds of “No Expectations.” The unbound love-anthem continues the spirit of the two-pack release but elevates itself into a more freely expressed sentiment of unbridled love, tapping into a moment once shared between former lovers. Texturized by rambling piano keys, against ticking hi-hats, create an equally free-form production style that mirrors Dad’s pleading lyrics to live in the moment.
