Nuworld Kayo is slowly but surely becoming a favorite here at Lyrical Lemonade, and with the recent release of his new project “Southside Blue Hearts,” it’s only right that we give him the limelight he deserves in our newest Q&A segment. He hails from Chicago like a majority of the featured artists on our previous Q&A’s, and he offers an extremely refreshing sound that’s filled with witty & catchy bars. EM: Before we dive into the questions, give our readers who may not be familiar with you a brief introduction of yourself.
NK: Yo, I go by Nuworld Kayo, I’m 18 years old and a rapper out of the Southside of Chicago, Illinois. I’m apart of the Nuworld collective and happen to be the youngest member. I’m a Muslim, an Aquarius, and undoubtedly choose cereal over waffles every time.

EM: What’s your favorite cereal?
NK: Fruity/cocoa pebbles hands down

EM: What is your earliest memory of music?
NK: Man. Road trips to St. Louis with the same playlist on repeat because of my mom. Renegade, The Black Album, and whatever Eminem projects that were out at that time. She threw some Kanye on here and there too but Hov and Em were her favorites.

EM: When did you first start creating music?
NK: 4th or 5th grade. I hated writing essays and my teacher was a rapper so he let me write poems instead. He kept telling me they were fire and I should take it serious. Saw it as a way out of school so I did just that. This was like 2010.

EM: What/who inspired you to become an emcee?
NK: Just the times honestly. I wanted to get rich but do something fun for work. I was real good at what I loved doing so I figured “why not take it serious?” Not that the money was the motive but as a youngin’ I knew I wanted money and I knew I loved rap.

EM: How would you describe your music to someone who has never listened before?
NK: Fire ass lyrics over dope production with a very relatable message for the youth. Something the kids could bump while their parents sing along too.

EM: Who are your top five biggest influences musically?
NK: Chance, Cole, K. Dot, Hov, Ye.

EM: What are your top five favorite albums of all time?
NK: College Dropout, The Black Album, Get Rich or Die Trying, Born Sinner, and GKMC. I’m sure I could name more but that’s off the top.

EM: What are your top five favorite mixtapes of all time?
NK: Acid Rap, Coloring Book, Friday Night Lights, Warm Up, and Southside Blue Hearts haha.

EM: What was the first album you ever bought?
NK: I damnear have never paid for an album lol I’ll say something by J. Cole tho, if anything, it was probably one of his.

EM: If you could collab with one person dead or alive who would it be?
NK: Chance or Beyoncé.

EM: What’s your favorite music video?
NK: Right now I would have to say Goosebumps. Travis Scott’s new joint. It looks like slight devil worshipping but it’s so good! Oh and I love the Same Drugs video. So simple but it’s super clear and precise. I love shit like that.

EM: Whats your favorite movie ever?
NK: I’m not a movie guy, won’t lie. But lowkey, I can watch Italian Job a million times over haha. Or Arthur! W/ Russell Crowe. It’s between those two

EM: What are your thoughts on Donald Trump?
NK: He can go all the way to hell. The same place he’s currently sending our country. Hashtag not my president.

EM: The National Anthem or The International Players Anthem?
NK: Definitely The International Players Anthem. I should’ve thrown 3 stacks in my inspirations. He slipped my mine. But yeah, Players Anthem.

EM: What is your favorite song that you have created so far?
NK: That’s super tough because different emotions sparked different songs but honestly, Like That. It’s not my best song in my opinion but it changed everything for me. Have to go with what got the ball rolling for me.

EM: Are there any local Chicago rappers that you have been listening to?
NK: Isaiah G, Femdot, Ausar. That’s probably it. I’m never up on the new shit. My manager tries to keep me aware but I mentally live in a bubble kind of.

EM: If you had to pick a few bigger name Chicago artists that you would like to work with in the future, who would they be?
NK: Chance, Vic, Sosa, Noname, Knox Fortune. Probably way more but that’s the gist.

EM: What’s your favorite book?
NK: Don’t read much but the Junie B. Jones book series did a lot for me In school. I always chose it in silent reading hour.

EM: What can our readers expect from you for the rest of 2017?
NK: A lot of content. Music, features, shows, merch, videos. I’m trying to release a lot of dope content I have sitting. My mind is always working so just stay tuned.

EM: Last question, where do you see yourself in 5 years?
NK: Not to be corny but I want to be married by then. Successful in my career but still going hard like I’m not. Doing festivals. Donating millions to charities. Just making my city, family, and friends proud.
