Throughout the end of 2021 and now through the start of 2022, East Atlanta’s Hunxho has been the heir-apparent next artist to truly blow on a mainstream level from the city, propelled by numerous local classics that have energized his city and at this point almost the entire south as particularly his song “Let’s Get It” is at this point a bona-fide regional hit that we have finally been treated to a proper video for, even though I personally really liked the animated version as well that precluded it. “Let’s Get It” is one of those beats that I think anyone could make a hit on, not to diminish the vocal performance of Hunxho but rather highlighting just how catchy and open the instrumental was that Hunxho walked all over. This track has been electrifying clubs, parties, pregames, and countless places in-between as there is something about “Let’s Get It” that is particularly rousing, perhaps because of the blend of the bold and simple piano loop mixed with Hunxho’s southern-drawl and self-assuredness. Hunxho’s rise is certainly not limited to this song however and his style extends far beyond its trap-simplicity and does not highlight his melodic prowess or rapidly improving songwriting skills that are allowing him to bleed more and more emotion into his lyrics. Hunxho is poised to have a massive 2022 and is in a better position to succeed in a major way than perhaps any of his Atlanta contemporaries.
