The best part about writing for Lyrical Lemonade is having the opportunity to bring amazing artists to light. It’s no secret that there is an abundance of music being placed on streaming platforms each day, which can sometimes cover up the true gems that need to be heard.
Today, I’m so excited to be writing about one of these true gems who goes by the name of Emawk. The Boston born musician was raised in Nairobi, but currently resides in New York City. I thankfully got exposed to Emawk after his music popped up on my discover weekly playlist one day; and from that moment on, I have been absolutely captivated by every single one of his projects. If you take a look at his social media, you will notice that Emawk is not mainstream, although his music quality would argue otherwise. He has put together an amazing body of work that is filled with sounds that demand to be heard.
His newest offering, “Later” falls in line with many of the masterpieces that he has created thus far. When you press play, the first thing you will notice is Emawk’s majestic vocals. In this song and many others, his distinctive yet soothing voice is undeniable, which is one of the skills in his repertoire that sets him apart from many. On top of singing and songwriting, he also produces and composes all of his own music; This is incredibly impressive when you take into account how good his music sounds. “Later” is driven by a very relaxing ambience that ultimately results in a beautiful crescendo, highlighting the beauty of this track.
In addition to all of the great things that are happening on this track, a story is also being told. Throughout the song, Emawk explores the common feeling of being misunderstood and misunderstanding others. In one of the verses, the rising artist makes the powerful statement, “Before you judge me, take a trip to the reflection pool.” In a society where so many people are different, it is so easy to judge others and neglect what they are truly feeling or going through. This is a vital concept that Emawk understands and aims to bring awareness to. He highlights the importance of not only accepting others but also accepting yourself and not letting anyone take that sense of dignity away from you.
Emawk is making his Lyrical Lemonade debut for a really beautiful piece of art and it’s about time all of you took a listen. I’ve attached the music video link below, so check it out and let us know what you think. If you are a fan of Emawk, like myself, make sure to follow him on his social media accounts here and here. Enjoy!
