While I was at the ILLANET event for Vic Mensa, I came across a young man named, Jake Osmun.  He insisted I follow him on twitter, and explained how he has just moved from Arizona to Chicago, and shoots videos.  I ended up visiting his website and watched a few of his visuals, and was simply intrigued.  Osmun’s been making moves since he’s arrived in Chicago and attended Columbia College, as he’s just recently been added to one of Chi’s most popular filmmaking squads, Elevator.

INTERVIEW QUESTIONS BELOW
.
[When did you know you wanted to get into filmmaking?]
I have always been intrigued by movies and film; being able to capture a moment in time is something that I found super interesting. I really got into filming probably 3 years ago, and got really serious with it a year and a half ago.
.
[Who are some of your influences?]
Too many to really list. Some big directors that influence me are Kubrick and Tarantino. Lately I’ve really been inspired by Uzi and their VHS work, they’ve been killing it. Also, the streetwear culture and music are huge inspirations for me (Frank Sinatra and Japanther are my shit).
.
[Why Chicago?]
Other than the fact that Chicago is popping on just about every front, I really wanted to expand my horizons and experience more of the world, meet new people, and be in a place that gives me better opportunities.
.
[What is the rap scene like in AZ?]
It’s pretty tight, it’s definitely not as big as Chicago, but everyone I work with and respect out there is really doing their thing and are super passionate.
.
[Where do you plan to take this skill of yours?]
I really just want people to be able to connect to my visuals. My goal is to positively effect people in anything that I put out into the world, and visuals are the best way I know how to do that. Hopefully it leads to more big opportunities in the industry, I feel like I’m in a great position right now.
.
[Who are some notable artists you’ve filmed?]
I’ve been super blessed and been able to shoot some of my favorite artists. The most notable are King Los, Cory Gunz, and Curren$y. I have also filmed numerous shows in AZ for tons of popular artists, live shows are super fun to capture and be on stage for.
.
[A few artists you’d like to team up with?]
Gucci Mane needs to hit my line.
.
[How did you get in contact with Elevator?]
Actually, I just tweeted them, things happened really fast.
.
[Where would you like to see yourself in five years?]
I want to continue doing what I love, with people that are just as passionate as I am. Hopefully by then I will be able to be doing some bigger productions, commercials, features, etc.
