Kicked It Up – [Jay Montana]

I write about a lot of overlooked artists and have always prided myself on finding artists that are both early on in their careers and from places that aren’t usually associated with having strong music scenes whose talent shines far beyond the places they are from and sincerely I don’t know if I have ever had the pleasure of chronicling the rise to fame of an artist who fits these parameters than Mobile, AL artist Jay Montana who despite his young age has managed to put together a massive and consistent catalog and influence the artists in his city who despite having almost a decade on him in some cases manage to take influence from the young star. His latest visual for the Al’Geno produced “Kicked It Up” is easily my favorite song from Montana’s very diverse and lengthy catalog that showcases a number of sounds and flows that frankly encapsulate the “Mobile sound” even more perhaps than artists like Rylo Rodriguez or NoCap do. He skates all over Al’Geno’s upbeat but somber guitar laced instrumental with ease and his lyrical content is both clever and profound at the same time and his charisma is undeniable as is made obvious by the talented Frazier Productions who did a fantastic job bringing this song to life. If I had to make one pick for what artist I felt like was “next up” from throughout the entire country it would without a doubt be Jay Montana and I cannot wait to watch the whole world get hip to him.
