Hailing from Philadelphia, Donny Electric has seemingly mastered the art of feel-good music. With every song, every lyric, and every note, his art pokes at the hearts of listeners, and if not anything else, this undeniable appeal leaves listeners — such as myself — eagerly revisiting his work, again and again. Today, speaking to this talent, Electric is back with an impressive new single, “If You Supply The Paint.”
By nature, this song creates a dichotomy of emotion. On one hand, Electric proclaims his deep affection for a love interest, using cleverly emotional lyrics to communicate his feelings. On the other hand, however, “If You Supply The Paint” toys with the emotional results of a breakup, ending with the impactful final line, “the slate’s been cleared of you.”
This dynamic structure speaks to Donny Electric’s masterful abilities as a songwriter. The transition from profound affection to a person becoming a stranger, of sorts, is a struggle that I’m sure we’ve all had some experience with, so for Electric to put this into such a fantastic piece of music is truly special. Don’t just take my word for it, though — stream “If You Supply The Paint” below!
