With how quickly moves are being made in regards to the progression of not just modern pop music in itself, but truly the entire contemporary music landscape, there ends up inevitably being quite a few acts who have done the absolute most to lay the groundwork for how things are, but are at times unfairly uncredited.
Polearm has been at the forefront of all things modern for quite a long time now in regards to how pop music is beginning to shape up; through projects like the unmistakably nuanced Therapy and a wide variety of past singles that seem ahead of their time even despite not coming out as far back as one would think, their foresight for the next wave is certainly set in stone, but often unregarded.
But instead of simply moving forward with a sound they helped to create, Polearm is now working towards a brand new future with a similar sense of intuition that is beginning to reappear like before. Their latest single “How You Rly Feel” exemplifies this exact sentiment in nearly all of its aspects.
Though this track is somewhat reminiscent of the now-atypical sounds of the rising next wave of pop from a spectacle, that claim fails to truly appreciate the steps they are taking to advance things even further than they already have with this one single offering.
Banking off of a muted and subdued delivery that still sticks out as gripping as can be, Polearm rides this grooving instrumental with a vocal sense that only they could call their own. And in saying this, the track itself introduces something of a new vocal lane for artists to try and incorporate into their own sounds — what with its sporadic, yet strikingly soft demenor.
This is all over an instrumental that is also in its very own lane by itself, considering how the once-standard riff that begins the song off soon develops into a rapid and dynamic collage of numerous different effects, speeds, and all-around passages.
Polearm is yet again making themselves known as not only wholly unique in their own right, but someone that never fails to be tellingly ahead of the game in just about every single meaning of the term.
