SwaVay has been a staple here at Lyrical Lemonade for the past year or so, and today, he’s back once again, proving his worth with a deeply introspective new release, “How It Goes.” As we’ve seen in the past, this budding talent certainly isn’t afraid to get honest with himself on the mic, but in his latest, SwaVay switches the pace of what we’re used to hearing from him, taking on a sun-kissed, soulful instrumental that you can’t help but throw on a loop as the weather starts getting warmer.
Even so, while this production style may feel a bit more casual than some of SwaVay’s more bass-heavy, knocking past releases, the lyrics provide a sense of striking realism that balances out the smoothness of the song. Right off the bat, listeners are hit with the following line:
“Never thought I would live past 15 / 22 and still chasing dreams through 16s”
Quite apparently, the introspection here is sure to keep listeners attentive throughout, as SwaVay takes us on a trip from his upbringing all the way to his current state of success. Against the odds, he’s carved out a lane in a notoriously brutal industry, and while SwaVay partially celebrates these wins in “How It Goes,” he also shows an awareness of where things could have ended up.
